JEWELRY CARE TIPS

I want you to enjoy your jewelry for a long, long time.  To help ensure that its beauty lasts, here are some tips on the do’s and don'ts  in preserving your purchase. If your stones are dropped on a hard surface, it is very possible they will break.  I advise wrapping the stone jewelry for travel in a padding like a tissue or cloth when you are not wearing it, and avoid allowing the piece to move freely against other surfaces

  • Caring for jewelry that is crafted using elastic has its own care rules.  One rule is do not stretch the bracelet when putting on or taking off.  You should roll it on and roll it off. This is the best way to ensure you enjoy your bracelet for years to come.  Simply put your finger tips together and roll the bracelet over the entire hand to put on and take off.

  • Always avoid contact with chemicals, such as bleach, pool water, hair spray, perfume, household cleaners and even hard water.  These elements could ruin the metal and even the stones- thus making them brittle, and dulling the shine and color leaving a film behind.  You can avoid these things by not swimming with your jewelry on.

  • Always remove your jewelry at night to avoid snagging and snapping your chains, and hooks.

  • Because base metals tend to tarnish (oxidation, which does not damage the metal) , wipe your jewelry with a soft, clean cloth to remove natural body oils and sweat residue.

  • Silver and gold will eventually tarnish or discolor if left in the open air.In some cases sterling silver and metals will darken dramatically. It is very important to store your jewelry in zip-lock bags or in a jewelry box or case. With the lid closed. This helps to reduce the amount of tarnish and the amount of cleaning or polishing needed later. I’ve been told you can use commercial and anti-tarnish strips in your jewelry boxes. They should last a few months or more and can be found at your local jeweler’s or jewelry supply websites.

  • Pearls are natural objects.  They can lose their natural luster or color, if they come in contact with chemicals or certain body oils.  Do Not store pearls in sealed bags as they need to breathe naturally.  But, do wipe them clean with a soft cloth after wearing to remove natural body oils.
